The Philosopher's Stone

The original plan for Sunday was for Jim and me to hike Ben Nevis which is the highest point in Britain. We checked the weather the night before and Sunday was supposed to be more of the same all day long. Rainy and windy. Not exactly the time of weather conditions you want when climbing a high peak. We had pretty much had decided not to attempt the hike.

On Sunday morning (May 5th), the rain had stopped, but the window would not last. Jim, Carter, and I decided we would hike up a little ways. We got a third of the way up. The Sun was out. It was getting pretty windy at the point where needed to turn around to meet our ride on time. We were in Fort William at noon, and the weather was turning to rain again. If we had gotten an early start, Jim and I could have done it. The weather is hard to predict though.

With the weather being what it was, all of us took the train ride from Fort William to Mallaig. This route is famous for having the Glenfinnan viaduct on it. The railroad viaduct was used in the Harry Potter films.

To bad about the weather on Ben Nevis. The few pictures you got were beautiful. Those kids you took pictures looked cute and kind of familiar.
